Rory McIlroy is back to within a shot of the lead at the PGA Championship.

The World Number 1 has recovered from a sluggish start at Valhalla to go 1-under par for his second round, moving him to 6-under for the tournament.

He is now just a shot behind the new outright leader, Ryan Palmer, who has moved clear of his fellow overnight leaders to take the top rung of the leaderboard on 7-under.

The heavy rain that forced a delay in the start of today's action has had a negative impact on Shane Lowry's chances, who is 2-over for his round and 1-under for the tournament.

Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington will both begin from 2-over par later this evening.
