Ex-Mayo star Liam McHale believes the county need to sacrifice next year's national league and blood their promising youngsters in order to have a chance of finally getting their hands on a long-coveted All-Ireland football crown.

Mayo fell at the semi-final stage for the second year in a row after losing to Dublin in a replay and tonight on Off The Ball, McHale looked to the future as he joined ex-Dublin star Tomas 'Mossy' Quinn on the show.

"I'd have to say that the two best footballing teams in the country are in the final. All the soundbites coming out of the group are very positive. I would say they sacrifice the league, don't worry about staying up, play young Evan Regan, play young Durkan, Drake, Coen, get all these young fellas in and get them playing seven Division 1 national league matches, try to get them up to speed as quickly as possible, make that squad as strong as possible and put these guys who have been playing for 5, 6, 7 years under a bit of pressure and all of a sudden if you can do that, you'll see the team reinvent itself and come again," he said.
