Conor McGregor's loss to Nate Diaz was the most talked about sporting event in America last week on Twitter.
Despite the event being shown in America on Pay-Per-View at the cheapest price of $49.99 (€45 approx), Diaz's second round submission of McGregor was the most popular event on Twitter.
The Nielsen ratings use the number of tweets, unique authors, impressions and unique audience to measure the popularity of the event. Diaz's win was over twice as popular on twitter and LA Lakers' shock win over Golden State Warriors which finished in second place.
March is best associated with the March Madness basketball tournament on the American sports calendar. The tournament begins on March 15th, but basketball dominates the top ten in the Nielsen Twitter ratings. The NBA features seven times and college basketball twice in the top-ten.
