Graeme McDowell has retained the French Open this afternoon. The Northern Irishman took the win at Le Golf National when Kevin Stadler, the overnight leader, missed a putt from 3 yards, handing McDowell the win and the $500,000 prize.
McDowell’s win was an incredible comeback, having started the day 9 shots off the lead. A 67 today brought McDowell to 5 under for the tournament, while Stadler shot 76, dropping back to 4 under for the tournament.
It is the first time McDowell has retained a title.
Michael Hoey finished on 1 under, with Damien McGrove on 3 over and Gareth Maybin on 8 over par.
