Graeme McDowell is through to the quarter final of the WGC Accenture Match Play following a dramatic late comeback to beat Hunter Mahan. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia went out following an act of exceptional sportsmanship in his match with Rickie Fowler.
McDowell was 2 down with 2 to play, following a bogey at the 16th, but a par and a birdie on the final 2 holes saw him tie the match before going on to win on the 21st hole with a birdie.
McDowell now goes on to play Frenchman Victor Dubiusson in the last 8. Dubiusson beat Bubba Watson in his final 16 match.
Sergio Garcia went out to Rickie Fowler but the match will be remembered for an act of sporting generosity from Garcia.
The Spaniard offered to halve the seventh hole, despite Fowler being fifteen feet from the hole, with Garcia just five feet away.
Garcia later explained he had made the move as he felt guilty for delaying on the previous green while dropping away from a colony of bees.
"I don't regret it at all, he played much better than me on the last 10 holes and he deserves the win," Garcia said to Sky Sports.
"This is a gentleman's game and lately it hasn't felt like it's been like that."
