We interrupted Jason McAteer’s FIFA session on the X-Box this evening to talk to him about Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool, and just what it is that Rodgers has doe to get be so close to wining a league title with Liverpool.

McAteer talked to Off the Ball about two key areas in particular that have reaped massive rewards for Rodgers and Liverpool: the work that went on to keep Luis Suarez at the club last summer when the strike was seemingly desperate to leave; and Rodgers’s man management.

McAteer has known Rodgers for several years, having had dealings with him on the pitch over the years (the two are of a similar age) and spoke primarily about the Northern Irishman’s honesty. McAteer told Off the Ball that with Rodgers “what you see is what you get” and unlike many other mangers in football, “he is what he says he is on the tin…a right down to earth fella.”
