Mayo enjoyed creating a slice of history this afternoon with a Connacht title win that made it four ina row for James Horan’s men, and brought them level with the great side of 1951 in that regard.

For all that Galway might have shown signs of resurgence this summer this bore a resemblance to last year’s Connacht final between these two.

Goals from Lee Keegan, Jason Doherty and Barry Moran made the difference and after the game Mayo manager James Horan highlighted the important role played by his forwards this afternoon, “We created a lot of chances and we’d a couple more goals chances that we could have taken but a couple of guys stood up today for us front and got crucial scores for us when it looked like Galway were making a run of it, so that kept us ahead,” Horan said.
