Roberto Martinez has ruled James McCarthy out of Ireland's upcoming Euro qualifier with Germany.

The Everton midfielder is not included in the 27-man squad for Saturday's game with Gibraltar, although it had been hoped he would recover for the trip to Gelsenkirchen.

But speaking before today's game at Old Trafford, Martinez says McCarthy will now miss both qualifiers.
