Martin O'Neill has named a 39-man squad for Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Wales and the friendly against Iceland.

Preston duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle maintain their places in the squad. Both players were part of the squad that defeated Austria last November when still at Dundalk.

Along with the Preston pair, there are also call-ups for the uncapped duo of Liam Kelly (Reading) and John Egans (Brentford). Both players have impressed in The Championship this season.

Goalkeeper Rob Elliott returns to the squad. The Newcastle goalkeeper missed out on Euro 2016 with an injury sustained in a friendly for Ireland last year.

Shane Duffy and Stephen Quinn miss out on the squad due to injury,  but there is a spot for midfielder Robbie Brady. The Burnley star will only be available for the Iceland friendly, and is suspended for the crucial home match against Wales.

The games are the first of what will be a crucial year for the national team. Ireland are currently top of Group D in World Cup qualifying, with three wins and a draw from their first four games, and could qualify for their first World Cup since 2002.
