Martin O'Neill has parted company with Sunderland as the Black Cats sit just one point above the relegation zone with a tough run coming up.
The former Celtic and Aston Villa manager replaced Steve Bruce in December 2011 but his spell at the Stadium of Light had come under increased scrutiny this season.
Sunderland are due to name a successor within the next 48 hours.

But in a statement on the club's website, they thanked O'Neill for his contributions during his 16 months in charge, although it was not made clear whether the 61-year-old was sacked or left of his own accord.
