It wasn't quite as bad as Andre Marriner's faux pas when he sent off the wrong Arsenal player against Chelsea two weeks ago, but an Italian referee called Mr Cirillo managed to red card the wrong player during an amatuer match.

In a match between SSD Castello and GS Alviano, Cirillo showed a red card to Michele Rossi. However it turned out that Rossi's brother Matteo was the true culprit.

However, Mr Cirillo can be given the benefit of the doubt given the fact that Michele and Matteo are identical twin brothers, unlike the incident involving Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs.

But regional sporting judge Marco Brusco has confirmed that the match between Castello and Alviano will be replayed because of Cirillo's error.

"It was an error that had an undoubted impact on the game and as such the match should be replayed," he said.
