Mario Gotze has decided to leave Bayern Munich and both Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are considered front-runners for the attacker's signature, according to reports.

Having scored the winning goal for Germany at the World Cup final in 2014, Gotze has struggled under Pep Guardiola at Bayern and was pushed to the periphery of his squad last season, only played 14 times in the Bundesliga.

The report in Bild suggests that Spurs have been in contact with the player but a return to Dortmund, who he left for the bright lights of the Allianz Arena, is not out of the question.

At 24, with just one year to run on his contract and refusing to sign an extension, Bayern Munich might be forced in to selling the player at a lower cost than they might like this summer.

It was believed that Carlo Ancelotti's appointment might change Gotze's predicament but that hasn't worked and the club have even encouraged him to look for another team.

The club's CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, said "We made everything clear to Mario, he knows what the club thinks and he knows what the future coach thinks."

"Mario has to consider for himself whether he wants to constantly get minutes," he continued.
