It was meant to be an even contest between Italy's strongest teams.

But in the end, bizarre penalty decisions ended up being decisive as Juventus edged title rivals Roma in Turin yesterday evening.

Three penalties were awarded by referee Gianluca Rocchi - two to Juve and one to Roma. But it was the two Juvenuts penalties that provided the biggest points of argument.

The first was for handball and it was inconclusive whether it was in the box. Either way, Rocchi changed his mind and decided that it was inside the box, while the second appeared to be just outside the box.

Roma's mercurial manager Rudi Garcia, who was sent off for a musical protest against the first penalty (he pretended to play a violin), alluded to the penalty decisions afterwords

But on the balance of play, Roma perhaps deserved to edge the match and tonight football writer Gabriele Marcotti joined us on the line to decide whether that assertion is true.

Indeed, Marcotti believes Roma will still remain in the title race and push Juventus all the way.

"I think this will be a tremendous two-horse race that will go on, all season long," said Marcotti, who also gave his verdict on the penalty decisions.

Marcotti highlighted the fact that Juventus's new manager Massimiliano has generally stuck to the tactics used by Antonio Conte so far this season.
