Manchester City have revealed that, following a fan consultation, they are to change their club badge for the first time in almost 20 years.

City last introduced a new badge in 1997. Their two previous badges were round, and it looks like the club will return to that format for their new crest.

After a consultation with the club's Cityzens fan group, the overwhelming response according to the club was to change the badge. The current badge is synonymous with one of the great periods in the club's history. The club have won every major English domestic honour since 2011 including two Premier League titles.

Speaking to Manchester City's official website, the General Secretary of the Manchester City FC Supporters Club was delighted with the news.

Kevin Parker said; "It is impressive that they canvassed our opinions on this matter and that they want to reflect our feedback in the ultimate design. On a personal note, while the Eagle badge will rightly live on in fans’ hearts, minds and on football kits for all that it has come to symbolise over the years, I am pleased that we will once again see the round design which has twice featured in our past badges."

The new crest is expected to be on the Manchester City jerseys next season.
