Manchester City are Premier League champions for the second time in three years. The Citizens went into today's final game against West Ham with some bookmakers pricing them at 1/66 to win the league title and that eventuality was never in any really doubt this afternoon.

Samir Nasri scored the goal that allowed the crowd inside the Eithad Stadium to breathe easily, scoring a long range shot on 39 minutes.

Meanwhile, at Anfield Martin Skrtel had put the ball into his own net to make a late title win seem even less plausible for Liverpool as Newcastle led 1-0 at half-time.

It was fitting that Vincent Kompany be the man to score the final goal of City’s campaign as the City captain buried the ball from 6 yards on 49 minutes. If there had been any doubt for City, or hope for Liverpool, then it evaporated as Kompany sprinted towards the heaving crowd of sky blue surrounding the Etihad pitch.

Liverpool regrouped in the second half to salvage what will have felt like a minor positive to end the season. Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Daniel Agger ensured they finished the season with a win and second spot.
