Manchester City are being linked with a move to sign Everton and Ireland's James McCarthy.

The club completed the signing of England winger Raheem Sterling from Liverpool yesterday for a fee of £49M.

They missed out on the signature of fellow England midfielder Fabian Delph, who elected to stay at Aston Villa, which has reportedly prompted interest in McCarthy, who has also been linked with Tottenham.

However, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is believed to be reluctant to countenance the departure of one of his key midfielders.
