The Gaelic Players' Association could play a more active role in reducing any excessive power over players held by inter-county management teams according to Off The Ball's Colm 'Wooly' Parkinson.

The issue of drink bans and draconian codes of conduct have been something we've followed closely on the show of late and speaking on tonight's show, Wooly said: "I genuinely think that if the GPA set up guidelines that all their members agreed to - within reason - then inter-county managers have to follow that rather than the other way round. Managers have way too much power".

Wooly also reacted to the GPA statement today in which they claim that they have offered support to Clare duo Davy O'Halloran and Nicky O'Connell who quit the senior hurling panel citing double standards over punishments.

"It seemed to me just an advertisement for their services. They told us absolutely nothing, gave away nothing and didn't support any players," he said, adding that the GPA should play a leading role in producing guidelines when it comes to the codes of conduct issued by inter-county setups in order to give players more backing.
