Manchester City goalkeeping legend Bert Trautmann has passed away at the age of 89.

He died in Valencia, months after suffering two heart attacks.

Trautmann is fondly remembered for playing on for 17 minutes during the 1956 FA Cup final even though he had a broken neck.

Born in Germany, he arrived in England as a prisoner of war towards the end of the Second World War, before signing for City in 1949.

Despite controversy early on due to his involvment in the war, he remained at the club until 1964, having made over 500 appearances, gaining hero status for his part in Man City's 1956 FA Cup final win over Birmingham.
