Malia Obama has been working as a production assistant on the Los Angeles set of Halle Berry‘s TV series “Extant”, the upcoming CBS sci-fi produced by Steven Spielberg.

Last week, the President’s oldest daughter “helped with computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take,” a set source told TheWrap.

There’s no word on when the 15-year-old headed west to California or how long she will stay during her summer break from school.

The President and First Lady flew to California on Friday and spent the weekend with Malia in Palm Springs. Their youngest daughter, 13-year-old Sasha, wasn’t with the family.

Malia was ‘outed’ as an aspiring filmmaker, and a fan of HBO’s “Girls,” in a January profile of President Obama by David Remnick for the New Yorker.

Obama insisted he and his wife were not “particularly conservative” and “not prudes” when it came to the entertainment they allow their teenage girls to indulge in, but he said he did want them to have some boundaries.

“Kids with structure have an easier time of it,” he said.

One thing is for sure... beats batting off midges while on a family trip to Glendalough.
