Lyon have confirmed that they have turned down a bid from Arsenal for French striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The Ligue 1 club say that they have rejected a €35 million offer from the Gunners, who are in search of a new striker, having been turned down by Jamie Vardy and also been linked with Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi.

The French club say that the 25-year-old is an "irreplaceable" member of the first-team squad in response to a press report that Arsenal had bid €48 million.

"Arsenal made an offer of €35 million which Lyon didn’t accept for one reason alone – we will keep Alexandre Lacazette," said the club in a statement.

"Lacazette is one of the main leaders of Bruno Genesio’s squad. We categorically deny having received an offer of €48 million from Arsenal for him, as has been reported."

Lacazette, who has 10 France caps but wasn't a member of the Euro 2016 squad, has breached the 20-goal mark in all competitions for the past three seasons at club level.
