Stanislas Wawrinka's Australian Open victory should not be tarnished but a lot of the talk after yesterday's final has focused on Rafael Nadal's back injury.

The World No 1 had to take a medical break in the second set.

While ESPN's Luke Jensen believes the injury had some impact, Wawrinka still won on merit.

"There's no doubt that played a part. But if you see the set Rafa won, he made that lion's charge and that warrior heart mentality. So it wasn't like he was in a cast or a wheelchair and I believe it's the biggest upset in modern tennis history because this guy came out of nowhere," said Jensen who explained that all players are "beat up" by the time they get to the latter stages."

Of course, much has been made of the fact that Wawrinka and Del Potro are the only two players from outside the Big Four to have won a Grand Slam in this era.

And Jensen believes that more players could break that stranglehold.

"I think the window's open. Federer is trying to rekindle the magic but he fell short [in Australia]. Nadal continues to struggle with these injuries. Murray's coming off the back of a back injury. If I'm Tsonga, Del Potro, David Ferrer, I'm licking my chops. If I'm going to score a major victory, now is the time because I don't have to deal with four-headed monsters."
