Shane Lowry holds a 1 shot lead on day one of the Irish Open at Carton House.
The 2009 winner carded a 5-under par 67 on his home course this afternoon to sit a shot ahead of a four strong group that includes another Irishman, Cian McNamara and another former champion, Thomas Bjorn.
Lowry and Bjorn completely out-shone their playing partner, Rory McIlroy who carded a 74 to finish on 2 over.
European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley finished on 2 under par.
Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington are still in the early stages of their opening rounds with McDowell on 1-under while Harrington is 1 over
