Liverpool will consider selling Luis Suarez, but not for less than £50m, according to reports in The Guardian. The club are to demand the striker submits a written transfer request if he wants to leave, and will not let him leave for less than the £50m they received for Fernando Torres. The striker's contract contians a clause - believed to be approximately £40m - that will allow him to open negotiations with any party who matches it, but will not ensure a sale.
While speaking on Uruguayan radio midweek Suarez admitted he would find it hard to turn down the opportunity to move to Real Madrid, should it present itself, before yesterday stating clearly he wanted to leave English football due to what he sees as press harassment. Liverpool promptly released a statement saying the player was not for sale, however they are now believed to be resigned to losing their most prized asset, but not for anything less than a premium price as the player remains under contract until 2016.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the Anfield club are suspicious about the timing of Suarez’s declarations of a desire to leave, and of the possibility he may have already arranged an informal deal with another club.
Per Guardiola, brother of Pep and Suarez’s agent, contacted Liverpool on Thrsday to inform the club his client had not made any decision regarding his future. As of yet it is not believed the club have received confirmation from suarez or his representatives that the player wants to leave, or that he wishes to stay.
