It took two penalties but Liverpool have continued their winning streak with a narrow win over West Ham at Upton Park.
The visitors took the lead just a couple of minutes before half-time. Luis Suarez collected a beautifully played pass from Steven Gerrard inside the West Ham area. As he cut back inside, James Tomkins handled and referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot.
Gerrard scored from the spot but Liverpool’s advantage wasn’t to last long.
West Ham’s equaliser came in controversial circumstances. Andy Carroll fouled Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, causing the keeper to drop the ball to the feet of Guy Demel who promptly levelled the match. Despite vociferous protests from the Liverpool players, and an initial flag from his assistant, Taylor awarded the goal.
Liverpool were struggling to find a clear way through a tough West Ham defence in the second half until West Ham keeper Adrian brought down Jon Flanagan in the box. Gerrard again finished expertly to make it 2-1 and put Liverpool back on top of the league table.
