Lyon have signed Xherdan Shaqiri from Liverpool.

The Switzerland international moves to the Ligue 1 club in a deal worth €11million.

29-year old Shaqiri has signed a three-year deal with Lyon after finding himself marginalised at Anfield.

He spent three seasons at Liverpool, but more than half of his Premier League appearances came during the 2018-19 campaign as the Reds finished second behind Manchester City.

Shaqiri's departure was inevitable this summer, and he'd been linked with a potential move to Lazio.

Liverpool have spent the transfer window shifting a lot of dead wood.

Prior to Shaqiri's exit, they'd sold Mark Grujic to Porto for €12million. They'd recouped €14million from Harry Wilson's sale to Fulham, and a further €7.5million from Taiwo Awoniyi moving to Union Berlin.

So far, Liverpool's only incoming has been defender Ibrahima Konaté from RB Leipzig for €40million. Their net spend for the summer is -€7.95million.

"Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks Xherdan for his contributions over the past three seasons," a statement read, "and wishes him the very best for the rest of his career."

Shaqiri is not alone in heading away from Anfield this week.

Ben Woodburn has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year old was Liverpool's youngest ever goalscorer when he found the net in a League Cup quarter-final win over Leeds United.

The Wales international has just one year left on his contract at Liverpool, and it's increasingly unlikely it will be renewed.

He joins a Hearts team in good form. They've begun the Scottish Premiership season with 7-points from a possible 9.
