Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has said the club have no intention of selling Luis Suarez and the club are sure the player will remain at Anfield.
Ayre told BBC Radio 5 Live he suspected some of the quotes from Suarez – in which the player admitted he would be open to listening to offers from Europe’s top clubs – “may have been a bit lost in translation”.
Ayre later said, speaking on BBC breakfast, "We love Luis being at Liverpool, he loves being at Liverpool and we fully expect him to be at Liverpool next season."
"We have no desire to sell Luis. He is a fantastic player and a great contributor to our team.
"We have been honest with him and he has been honest with us and there will always be instances, particularly leading up to the summer, where people are quoted or asked these questions, but we are very pleased to have Luis and long may that continue.
"Every player will be approached by clubs because that is the nature of the game and every player has a choice. He has a four-year contract with us and we hope he will see that through."
Suarez’s quotes were taken from an AFP interview, conducted in Spanish while the player was on international duty in Montevideo, Uruguay. In the interview Suarez said that, while he was “very happy” at Liverpool, Europe’s top clubs “are welcome” to bid for him in the summer should they wish. The striker went on to say he would consider any offer that came in, “We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don’t want to go.”
