Ten man Newcastle United have drawn 2-2 with Liverpool, with the Anfield club having to come from behind twice to earn the point.
Newcastle took the lead with a long range Yohan Cabaye strike on 23 minutes but the lead didn’t last long as Steven Gerrard converted a penalty arising from a Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa foul on Luis Suarez in the Newcastle area. Yanga-Mbiwa wasshown a red card and Newcastle faced the entire second half a man down.
The numerical disadvantage was not, however, to prove as big an impediment as expected for Newcastle. Alan Pardew's side took the lead again, this time as first half sub Paul Dummett capitalised on some sloppy Liverpool defending to make it 2-1.
Liverpool again struck back quickly, this time through Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge got on the end of a Luis Suarez cross on 72 minutes to level the game.
Liverpool, and Sturridge in particular, had chances to win the game before the end but the final result of a draw seemed a fitting one.
