Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed the eventful lead-up to their FA victory at Blackburn for stand-in skipper Jordan Henderson, who had reportedly not slept the night before the game as his wife gave birth to his second daughter.

The Merseysiders' hopes of winning a trophy this season are still very much alive after they beat Championship side Blackburn 1-0 in their last-eight replay at Ewood Park last night to set up a semi-final with Aston Villa.

Rodgers praised the performance of midfielder Henderson - who played despite the birth of his second child the night before.

"He said to me, 'boss, as soon as the baby's out I'll be coming back'," revealed Rodgers, "and there was a car waiting and he spent the time with his young wife and the child and he sad 'I'll be back'.

"He was back, he had his lunch, he'd a good sleep, and played later in the Cup."
