A man from Limerick has been named the Rose of Tralee, Escort of the Year.

Conor Walsh is a qualified aircraft maintenance technician from Cappamore, who works as a linesman with ESB networks.

He was announced as winner in front of a live TV audience last night, picking up the overall prize valued at €5,000.

Mr Walsh is assigned to the North Carolina Rose, Nancy Boyce.

He explains what it takes to be a top escort, saying "try and treat a Rose like you'd like someone to treat your sister."
