Kimi Raikkonen finished the qualifying in fourth place, while Red Bull home favourite Daniel Ricciardo crashed out at Turn 14 of Q3, when he spun off the course and into a barrier.

He will start outside outside of the top 10 if a new gearbox is required due to the crash damage.

Further back in the field, Fernando Alonso was among those who failed to make it through the top 10.

32-year-old Hamilton is hoping to become Britain's first driver to win a quartet of titles.
