The chances of Robert Lewandowski joining Manchester United in the summer appear to have taken a significant blow, as the player’s agent has said that while the Polish striker is interested in a move to the Premier League, it most likely won’t happen “this summer”.

Lewandowski’s future has been the subject of intensified interest from the world’s press in the past week, following his four goal performance against Real Madrid in last week’s Champions League semi-final first leg. Reports have varied between suggesting he has signed a preliminary agreement with Bayern Munich, to reports that he will snub the German champions for a move to Old Trafford.

Lewandowski’s agent, Malik Barthel, appeared to pour cold water on suggestions his client was ready to swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League.

"I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future," he said.

Lewandowski has one year remaining on his contract at Borussia Dortmund, which has led many to speculate the club will sell him this summer, rather than run the risk of losing him for free next year. Lewandowski’s teammate, Mario Gotze, caused a major stir in German football last week as it was announced he has agreed to leave Dortmund for Bayern, and many felt Lewandowski wqould soon follow suit. Bayern Muncih have, however, released a statement denying the club, as of now, "has no contract with Robert Lewandowski."
