Leonid Slutsky has been named manager of Hull City.

The former Russia manager, becomes the first Russian to manage in English professional football, and will hope to return Hull City to the Premier League.

Slutsky led Russia last year to Euro 2016, where they had a disastrous performance. The side finished bottom of their group, failing to win any of their three games.

The 46-year-old was manager of CSKA Moscow from 2009 to last December. In that period, he helped his team to three League titles and two Russian Cups.

Since leaving CSKA Moscow at the end of last year, Slutsky was based in London where he learned the English language in a bid to become a manager of an English club.

He will join up with the Hull City squad next week, as the team prepare to try and gain promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

"I am delighted to become the Head Coach of Hull City and I am very much looking forward to the challenge of guiding the Club back to the Premier League", the Russian said in a statement, announcing his appointment.

"I already know that this is an important Club with a big and loyal fanbase, I’ve had a good feeling about it ever since meeting the Allam family and I can’t wait to get started next week."
