Leeds United have confirmed that club legend Peter Lorimer has died at the age of 74.

The club's all-time record goalscorer had been in hospice care in recent weeks.

Lorimer scored 238 goals during two spells at Leeds, and was involved in every major honour won by the club, bar the 1991-92 League Championship.

While at Elland Road, he won two league titles, the FA Cup and League Cup.

In between two spells at Leeds, Lorimer also played for NASL side Toronto Blizzard, York City, and under former teammate John Giles at Vancouver Whitecaps.

As part of a link-up with the Whitecaps, Lorimer played three games on-loan at UCD in 1983, before re-joining Leeds.

Lorimer's death comes in the wake of the passing of several of Don Revie's famous side in a short space of time.

Jack CharltonNorman Hunter and Trevor Cherry all sadly lost their lives in 2020.

Giles told OTB Sports last year, "It is fingers crossed all the time, I keep my fingers crossed for myself.

"Most of the lads I played with are a similar age to myself. They are in the danger age, but it's fingers crossed all the time."

Lorimer was named in Giles' all-time Leeds XI last year, with the ex-Ireland captain and manager saying, "Peter could score more goals as Eddie Gray [his counterpart on the other wing]," said Giles.

"Peter would make half a yard on the full-back and whizz the ball in!"
