An injury time equaliser from Legia Warsaw was enough to prevent St Patricks Athletic from recording a famous European win.

The reigning SSE Airtricity League champions were forced to settle for a 1 - 1 away draw in their Champions League first round qualifier against the Polish champions as Miroslav Radovic scored a 90th minute goal.

Christy Fagan's goal just 6 minutes before half-time had put the Saints on course to claim victory.

Brilliant build up play between ex-Ireland midfielder Keith Fahey and Ian Bermingham set up Fagan for a close-range finish to break the deadlock.

The striker also missed another glorious goal-scoring chance just minutes later when his shot was cleared off the line.

But Pats were also fortunate to still have 11 players on the pitch after goalkeeper Brendan Clarke escaped with a yellow card after he was booked for a foul just outside the penalty area.

The Polish side, managed by former Man United defender Henning Berg, grew increasingly dominant during the second half as the Pat's players appeared to tire.

The home side eventually grabbed a draw in injury time when Radovic fired home from a tight angle, leaving the tie delicately balanced ahead of the return leg in Dublin next week.

That match will take place next Wednesday, July 23rd.
