Javier Tebas has promised to investigate match-fixing in La Liga before. But today he made the claim that up to eight matches per season are fixed in La Liga and the Segunda Division.
"Between the first and second divisions, around eight have been manipulated.
I am trying to eradicate the black sheep in La Liga. If we do not eradicate now, it will become like the Wild West with no laws, no control," said Tebas.
It is not the first time that accusations of match-fixing have been made in Spain. Last season a match involving relegated Deportivo de la Coruna was investigated and club president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro claimed that match-fixing was quite common.
Tebas hopes to put an end to the alleged practice.
"If a player, coach or director has been directly involved, he will have a lifetime ban. If he knows about it, doesn't participate but doesn't tell the authorities, he will have a three-year ban," said Tebas.
