Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he is to take a break from management after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. The news comes as a blow to clubs across Europe, including Liverpool who were linked with the German.

'It makes sense to take a break after seven intensive years', said Klopp in a press release earlier this afternoon. His final match for the club was the German Cup final loss to Wolfsburg at the weekend.

Klopp joined the club from Mainz, where he spent almost 20 years as a player and manager. He turned Dortmund into one of the big guns of European football, winning two league titles and a German Cup.

His side also reached the Champions League final in Wembley, losing to rivals Bayern Munich in 2013.

Former Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel has already been announced as Klopp's replacement.
