Joe Kinnear has risked alienating Newcastle fans even further by saying he is more intelligent than those criticising him. 

The self-proclaimed new director of football is expected to meet manager Alan Pardew today. 

The club are yet to confirm his appointment but an announcement is expected today.

There has been surprise and anger among supporters over Kinnear's potential return to St James' Park.

Kinnear, for his part, criticised his detractors in no uncertain terms in a rant on Talksport last night where he mispronounced the names of some of Newcastle's star players.
