Kilkenny emerged victorious in a 2-17 to 0-20 battle in the Allianz League Division 1 final in Thurles.

Man of the Match Michael Fennelly was the first half goal hero for the Cats as he scored twice within the first 20 minutes on his return from injury.

Consequently, Kilkenny went into the half-time break with a 2-07 to 0-11 lead.

But 10 minutes after half-time, both sides were reduced to 14 men after a bust-up between Lar Corbett and JJ Delaney saw both men sent off.

Tipp struggled to get the goal they needed to tie up the scores and Kilkenny claimed the first major silverware of 2013.
