Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love made history on Wednesday night in the Cavs' 137-125 win over Portland Trail Blazers.

The 28-year-old scored 34-points in the first quarter, to break the NBA record for most points scored in the opening period. His tally was just three-short of Klay Thompson's overall record, for the most in any quarter.

Love's performance included eight three-pointers as the NBA Champion struck a rich vein of form on front of his home crowd.

While the Californian was in excellent form in the opening quarter, he only scored six points in the remaining three quarters to finish on 40-points. Despite the first-quarter record, Love was joined by his opposing #0 as Portland's Damian Lillard also scored an even 40.

The Cavaliers currently have the best record in the NBA. They top the Eastern Conference with an 11-2 record after 13-games.
