Kenny Cunningham believes Manchester City should have stuck with the game-plan used in December's 2-0 win at Roma when coming up against Barcelona.

The Premier League side were knocked out of the Champions League tonight after defeat in both legs and the La Liga side.

Speaking to Off The Ball tonight, Cunningham feels Manuel Pellegrini should have remained faithful to the approach used in Rome.

"If you look at Manchester City's most impressive performance in the Champions League, it was Roma away. For me that was almost a template - 4-3-3, one lone striker, Toure wasn't to be seen because he did't play that night and Fernando and Fernandinho played. Nasri, I think it was who actually played off the front," he said, before addressing tonight's match.

"Second half, tactically his side changed. He threw Milner into central midfield with more energy and more dynamism in there. Toure actually brightened up a little bit and looked like he was enjoying himself a little bit more in that advanced midfield area."
