Robbie Keane’s legend continues to grow Stateside as the Dubliner claimed the MLS Cup for LA Galaxy with an extra-time winner against the New England Revolution last night.
The Tallaght man struck in the 111th minute to bag his third MLS title in four years with the Galaxy at the StubHub Centre in Los Angeles.
“It doesn’t get much better than that,” said Keane, who was crowned Major League Soccer MVP, the MLS’s player of the season for 2014, last week.
"It was a tough game," he added. "I think there was a lot of nerves there by both teams.
"I've been here for four years and I've won three championships, so so far it's been fantastic. I've enjoyed it. Let's see what happens next."
Keane’s strike partner, Gyasi Zardes, put the Galaxy ahead early in the second half but Revolution’s Chris Tierney grabbed the equaliser with 11 minutes of normal time remaining before Keane netted his 20th goal of the season in extra-time.
