This past weekend Pinehurst No.2 met its match: Martin Kaymer!
The 29-year-old won by eight, at nine under, following a fourth round of 69, becoming the first player from continental Europe to win a U.S. Open title.
He played the game of his life and some are asking how he did it. He will say this,"I can tell you the things that are in the book, what you can read about, but I just feel the shot, and I just hit it."
Before winning the U.S. Open Kaymer was ranked at 28th in the world and now replaces Phil Mickelson at the 11th spot. Fan favorites Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Rose did not even place in the top ten.
Kaymer has made history along with Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, and Raymond Floyd as the only players to win a PGA Championship, a Players Championship and U.S. Open in their careers, making the impossible possible with this extraordinary performance.
