Justin Rose is to take the next eight weeks off from golf for "rest and recovery".

He explained that wants time to get over an issue with his back that he has been dealing with.

Rose says he is "very disappointed" that he will have to miss out on the British Masters and the rest of the European Tour season.

It was also an eventful year as the Englishman also won gold at the 2016 Olympics golf tournament as well as playing in the Ryder Cup this week.

"I have decided to take the next eight weeks off for rest and recovery. At this point in my career, it's important to invest in my body. This time off is crucial for me to return to peak performance," said the 2013 US Open winner.
