Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he will not miss the year 2020 after his side were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle and another defender was ruled out through injury.

"I'm quite happy that 2020 is nearly over now, to be honest, apart from being champions it is not a year I will think much about in the future," the German manager said following the Premier League encounter.

The Newcastle back up goalkeeper Karl Darlow had an outstanding game in keeping the Champions goalless, making a string of saves to deny Salah and Firmino in particular.

Klopp acknowledged the overall performance of his team despite not breaking the deadlock.

"We found a lot of solutions in the game and created unbelievable chances. You have different draws and this one I'm not happy with the result but I am happy with the performance.

"They defended with all they had but still we were alone in front of the goal, we just couldn't finish them off.

"I've watched a lot of football matches. You have to respect the result. I know the boys will finish off those situations if they get them again, and we will win football games," the manager said.

Klopp: "Last thing I'm thinking about"

Liverpool have finished 2020 where they began, on top of the Premier League, albeit it with a more slender advantage. Manchester United could join them on points should they win their game in hand against Aston Villa on New Year's Day.

However, Klopp added: "The last thing I'm thinking about is our position in the table. It's nice but it doesn't mean anything at the moment."

They will also be without any of their senior centre-backs after Klopp confirmed Joel Matip will be out for three weeks with an adductor strain sustained in the draw against West Brom.

The champions are already missing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez with long-term issues.

"The normal stuff with this kind of injuries, [he will be out for] around three weeks," Klopp said.
