Chelsea captain John Terry has said he wants a 12 month extension to his contract with the club

The 34 year old will be out of contract at the end of the season and has today said that, although the club have not yet offered him an extension to his 16 year career at Stamford Bridge, he is hoping one is forthcoming.

“The club know my position," the former England captain told the BBC.

"I want to stay. Hopefully my performances are showing that and they can keep me.

"I'll be happy to get one year and then see how it goes. I'm taking it year by year. I haven't got much choice."

John Terry has been the most successful captain in the history of the club, leading Chelsea through its most decorated period as he won three Premier League titles, one Champions League, four FA Cups and two League Cups.
