As the 2017-18 ticks into Autumn and the early portions of winter, Manchester United appear well placed to challenge on a number of fronts.

Joint top of the Premier League, with five wins from six and top of their Champions League group after 3-0 and 4-1 wins over Basel and CSKA Moscow respectively, Jose Mourinho's side have set themselves a platform for the remainder of the season.

John Giles likes what he's seen from them so far as the Leeds United and Ireland legend told Nathan. 

"I think they've improved since last year, Nathan," he said.

"They've made a very good start to the season, they're not conceding many goals, Lukaku's scoring goals so I think it's as good a start as you would wish for Manchester United if you were a Manchester United supporter and I think they've done well.

"They're scoring goals. Last year they weren't scoring many goals between them, you know. There were very few players scoring goals, whereas this year Lukaku's leading it and they're all chipping in.

"They've conceded very few goals as well so they seem to be well balanced, Nathan, and I think the signs are good Manchester United." 

Paul Pogba has been missing from the Man United midfield in recent weeks due to injury and it has not an adverse impact on results.

"I don't think Pogba is as big an influence as people make him out to be to be quite honest," he said.

"I think he does certain things but I think it's over-rated his contribution. I think Herrera contributes as much. He wouldn't score as many goals as Pogba but I don't think Pogba's performances actually have lived up to his reputation."
