John Giles does not want to see Aiden McGeady starting Saturday's must-win Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.

Speaking on Off The Ball, as he joined us to preview the game, the Ireland midfield legend wants to see Wes Hoolahan given prominence by manager Martin O'Neill.

"I hope that Hoolahan is playing. I'd like to see a midfield of Hoolahan, [James] McCarthy, [Stephen] Quinn and [James] McClean. That's what I'd like to see and give Hoolahan a roving role to go where he wants from the right side. He's definitely our best player to create things, " he said, adding that he "wouldn't play Aiden McGeady".

John concluded that McClean has a better end product and is more direct than the "inconsistent" McGeady.

He also feels Jon Walters and Shane Long should start up front to provide strength and speed.

John was speaking on Off The Ball's Thursday night football. Listen to his full preview of the game and his thoughts on being left off RTE's soccer panel via the Football with John Giles podcast:
