Sheffield United defender John Egan has voiced his frustration at the length of time it takes for decisions to be made when VAR is involved.

The Republic of Ireland international was speaking ahead of the Blades' Premier League tie at home to West Ham United this evening.

Sheffield United can move up to fifth if they take all three points against the rejuvenated Londoners, now managed by David Moyes.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, the Cork native has called for more decisiveness when it comes to technology helping out match officials.

"I just think it should be quicker," Egan commented.

"If it's clear and obvious, if it's not clear and obvious, that can be decided within ten seconds, 20 seconds.

"If you've to look over the same image for five minutes I don't think it's clear and obvious."

Sheffield United were left particularly frustrated in November when David McGoldrick's goal against Tottenham was chalked out after John Lundstram was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up.

After a lengthy stoppage, replays showed the midfielder's toe to have been marginally offside - and McGoldrick's goal was disallowed.

John Egan referred to that particular decision as a 'farce'.

"We had one at Spurs, it was a farce. Lunny's [John Lundstram] big toe or something like that was over the line. They might say it is offside technically but everybody in football knows that's not offside.

"It's a bit frustrating when you're on the bad end of it but you just have to take it and move on."

Ahead of tonight's clash, Sheffield United find themselves in eighth position.

But a win for Chris Wilder's side tonight would see them leapfrog Wolves, Tottenham and Manchester United ahead of the weekend action.

West Ham, meanwhile, are two points outside the relegation zone in 16th.

The Hammers have won both of their matches since David Moyes' reappointment as boss.

They beat Bournemouth 4-0 on New Year's Day in the league, before progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Gillingham last weekend.
