Joe Ward has won silver at the World Championships in Qatar after losing his final tonight.

The 21-year-old lost to Cuba's Julio La Cruz, who took a unanimous points decision this evening in their Light-heavyweight final.

Ward knocked his opponent to the canvas in the opening round, but La Cruz always appeared to be in control of the contest as he used his movement and reach to keep ahead on the scorecards winning all three rounds by 10 points to 9.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on a gold, Ward can now look forward to preparing for next year's Rio Olympics, having already qualified.
