Donegal football begins life after Jim McGuinness today and the county board are confident the legacy of McGuinness will ensure Donegal football can keep challenging at the same level over the coming years.

County Board chairman Sean Dunnion spoke to Newstalk about McGuinnmess’ decision and says the future remains bright.

“To reach an all Ireland final again in 2014 will be remembered as one of the most successful years in our history,” Dunnion said.

McGuinness stepped down after four years in charge of the county's footballers, a reign which saw his side win the 2012 All Ireland title and led them to this year’s final.

“Jim has left a huge legacy behind; he has left a county that is on an upward curve. We still have a fantastic panel of players for the next manager that will be coming in.”

McGuinness' last year in charge brought a third Ulster title in four years and an All Ireland final appearance.
